Brave Baskets

Kids Living Brave supports children in Iowa and their families diagnosed with cancer.

Ages 0-18, both male and female. (Baskets are given to babies, toddlers, kids, pre-teens, and teens)

The BRAVE BASKETS and items are given to patients & their families to help ease the effects from treatment and bring some fun, joy, and distractions during a difficult time.

  • Medical grade thermometer with ear scanner replacements
  • Press n seal
    • used to cover ports or PICC lines when bathing
  • Tegaderm film
    • Use over the top of numbing cream on port prior to blood draws
  • Alcohol swabs (clean picc or port lines)
  • Band aids
  • Polysporin
  • Tums smoothies
  • AM/PM pill organizer
  • Miralax- to help with constipation caused from chemo
  • Glutamine- GNC flavored (swish and swallow to prevent and heal mouth sores)
  • Epson salt & Baking soda
  • Equal parts into bathtub for a relaxing and detoxification bath
  • Young Living essential oils
    • Thieves
    • Lavender
    • Peppermint
    • Lemon
      • Use to soothe the effects of treatment
  • Organic coconut oil
    • Use as carrier oil for essential oils

  • hot/cold packs- use to soothe areas of need

    • Use to write down time and dosages of medication, symptoms, side effects, eating & drinking, appointments and any questions for your child’s physician. This is a great tool if you have more than one person administering medications at home. Take with you to appointments, his can be a key tool in helping your child’s physician understand and see any foreseeable problems.

    • To help parents keep hydrated and allow your immunity to stay up when caring for your child.
  • Gum & Hard candy
    • For some patients this helps ease with unpleasant tastes during saline flushes, or during medication infusions.
  • Norwex laundry soap & dryer balls
    • Organic fragrance free to help at home or when inpatient please note there is a free laundry facility on the 5th floor of Blank.
  • Norwex hand sanitizer- use when you or child cannot wash their hands.
  • Norwex cleaning cloth- chemical free cleaning cloth
  • Norwex child antibacterial hand towel
  • Organic (all natural) baby wipes- chemo can cause constipation or other medications can cause diarrhea, the wipes are very handy no matter the age of your child to soothe in the restroom.
  • Natural/ organic hand and body lotions- skin can become very dry during treatment and also from frequent hand washing, use to help dry skin.
  • Organic/natural sunscreen- during and after chemotherapy skin is very light sensitive, use this to protect from sunburns and protection.
  • Mrs Meyer’s multi surface everyday cleaner- safe cleaner to keep your home germ free.
  • Toms toothpaste- organic, sensitive toothpaste- teeth and gums can become irritated during treatment this gentle toothpaste will help.
  • Soft bristle toothbrush- to protect sensitive teeth and gums during and after treatment
  • Dixie cups- use to place medication in and for drinking cups for ease when taking meds
  • Kleenex
  • Plastic ware (silver ware)- during treatment the metal of regular silverware can interfere with the tastes of food.
  • Natural lip balm- during treatment lips can become sore and cracked, use to help soothe and protect.
